Examples - These simplified examples have been rendered at a lower resolution and without textures, and show the same new house for a site outside Cambridge. The walkthrough allows you to explore the ground floor and landing of the house, while the object model lets you examine the same house from the outside. In both cases, sunlight has been cast for 11am on 1st May (2pm in the garden rooms), and in the walkthrough this is supplemented with artificial light.
Benefits - First and foremost this approach gives the client more information earlier in the design process. This enables the client to visualise the feel of the proposed spaces more fully than they could from 2 dimensional drawings. From this the client is able to engage more meaningfully in the development of the design. As a result the significant changes to a project design can be made earlier in the process, and thus more efficiently and cost-effectively. The same approach assists the negotiation of a project through to planning approval - planners often struggle to understand the 3-dimensional nature of a proposal. Since all project information is drawn from the single source of the Virtual Building Model, the co-ordination of construction information is tighter, reducing cost and time overruns. Overall this approach delivers a more predictable outcome in terms of quality, time and cost, and is applicable across the broadest range of projects, from small scale domestic extensions through individual buildings, as shown above, to multi-million pound commercial developments. |
